For Cable-Lay Systems and Vessel Designs
Singapore, 6 October 2026 — Dimension Consultants Pte Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bureau Veritas Marine (Singapore) Pte Ltd, establishing a three-year cooperation framework for subsea cable-lay equipment and vessel designs.
Signed at Bureau Veritas' Singapore office on 23 September 2026, the agreement builds on an existing relationship that includes independent design reviews and attendance at factory acceptance tests for Dimension's carousels, cable storage systems and integrated cable-lay spreads.
The framework extends this cooperation to power, fibre-optic and hybrid cable-lay vessel designs, including the integration of mission equipment with the vessel platform. Bureau Veritas will act as the principal technical office for plan approval and design verification.
For Dimension's customers, early engagement with class helps establish a coordinated approach to equipment, vessel engineering and verification throughout project development. It supports Dimension's Design. Build. Operate. approach by bringing classification considerations into the engineering process from the outset.
Dimension's evolving vessel portfolio includes the Maxwell Class, a multipurpose hybrid cable-lay vessel currently at preliminary design stage. The concept brings together fibre-optic cable installation and repair, inter-array power cable installation, subsea ploughing and offshore support capabilities.
Its proposed mission spread combines SMD cable drum engines and ploughing equipment with Dimension's power cable-laying system. The design provides for 5,250 tonnes of combined fibre-optic cable capacity, including a 2,250-tonne dual-mode carousel for power and fibre-optic cable operations.
The DP2 vessel concept also incorporates diesel-electric propulsion, 1,500 kWh of battery energy storage and accommodation for up to 100 personnel. Optional equipment includes a 150-tonne active heave-compensated crane and a motion-compensated gangway. Design particulars remain subject to final engineering and the applicable approval process.
This MOU gives our clients a clear, predictable route to Class-approved cable lay systems and vessels through a single technical office in Singapore. With the Maxwell Class we address the fiber and power cable markets on one hull, and Bureau Veritas' early engagement means classification is built into delivery from the first design review through to the vessel's class certificate.
We are pleased to formalize our collaboration with Dimension Consultants through this Memorandum of Understanding. As the subsea cable industry continues to expand globally, there is an increasing need for safe, reliable, and technically robust cable laying systems and vessels. Through this partnership, Bureau Veritas will bring its expertise in classification, independent design review, and verification to support the development of next-generation cable lay equipment and vessels.
The collaboration marks a further step in Dimension's development of integrated equipment and vessel solutions for subsea cable projects. Explore the Maxwell Class or contact our team to discuss your next cable-lay vessel or equipment project.
