Region Singapore — Malaysia (Straits of Johor) Programme 3-Month Mid-Project Takeover

Took over the project mid-stream for SP Group and LS Cable & System after the previous contractor walked off halfway. Dimension completely remobilised the vessel — reel-drive and full cable-lay system — drove the MWS approval cycle, rebuilt the project procedures and mobilised & operated the Vertical Injector in 3 months, on the Singapore – Malaysia 230 kV Woodlands interconnector.

The Challenge

Picked Up Halfway. Back Offshore in 3 Months.

The previous contractor walked off the Singapore – Malaysia Woodlands interconnector with the project halfway through. Dimension was brought in by SP Group and LS Cable & System to take over and rescue the programme — completely remobilising the vessel with reel-drive and a full cable-lay system, driving the MWS approval chain, rebuilding the project procedures from scratch, and mobilising and operating the Vertical Injector for cable burial. Three months from takeover to back offshore.

Overview

Singapore – Malaysia Interconnector

SP PowerAssets (SP Group) and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) commissioned two new 230 kV cable circuits — land and submarine — to strengthen the interconnection between the Singapore and Malaysian power networks. LS Cable & System was the main contractor for supply and installation of the two circuits and auxiliary cables across the Straits of Johor, from Woodlands, Singapore to Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

Mid-programme, the original installation contractor demobilised. Dimension was brought in by SP Group and LS Cable & System to take over and rescue the project — completely remobilising the Nostag 10 with the reel-drive and cable-lay spread, driving the MWS approval cycle, rebuilding the project procedures and mobilising and operating the Vertical Injector for cable burial. The recovered programme was returned to offshore operations in 3 months.
