Pipe Lay Tensioner

Heavy-duty tensioners for S-lay and reel-lay pipeline installation — featured: 35 MT Four-Track Electric-Drive build (2-unit package).

Overview

Pipe Lay Tensioner

Pipe lay tensioners for S-lay, J-lay and reel-lay operations — engineered for high continuous tension, abrasive pipe coatings and 24/7 offshore duty.

  • Four diagonally-mounted carriages with polyurethane V-shaped pads — pad profiles selectable by product diameter (50–400 mm).
  • Hinged upper tracks on squeeze cylinders enable active clamping, quadrant by-pass and top-loading without breaking the product.
  • Closed-loop control, 0 – 35 t auto tension hold — variable-frequency electric drive (4 × 55 kW, planetary gearbox) with no hydraulic track HPU.

Key Features

  • PLC-controlled four-track continuous-tension system with closed-loop set-point
  • Diagonally-mounted carriages running polyurethane V-shaped pads — pad profiles selectable by product
  • Lower tracks frame-fixed; upper tracks on squeeze cylinders for active clamping
  • Hinged upper tracks enable quadrant by-pass and top-loading without product break
  • Open one-side design for fast deck loading and pad change-out
  • Variable-frequency electric drive (4 × 55 kW) with planetary gearbox — no hydraulic power-pack required for the tracks
  • Quick-connect cable remote for safe operation from the control cabin
  • Auto tension hold between 0 – 35 t (reduced set-points possible with ≤ 20% accuracy de-rating)

Delivery Methodology

Pipe-Lay Tensioner Build Process

Six integration gates from layout planning through class approval — the standard workflow applied to every pipe-lay tensioner Dimension delivers.

  1. 01
    Layout Planning

Operations team sets integration layout against vessel and product-path constraints.

  2. 02
    Integrated Analysis

    Pipe load and lay-method analysis across tensioner, A&R winch and stinger (S-lay / J-lay / reel-lay).

  3. 03
    Tensioner Integration

Structural and mechanical integration of tensioner with control system and pipe-lay spread.

  4. 04
    Equipment FAT

Factory Acceptance Testing — function and load testing to rated capacity.

  5. 05
    Tensioner FAT

Function testing of the integrated tensioner under working load.

  6. 06
    Class Approvals

    DNV-OS-F101 / API RP 17B class society approval — project-specific.

Outcome Every pipe-lay tensioner arrives at the shipyard class-approved, load-tested and supported by Dimension commissioning and operations crew.
