Concept to Delivery in 7 Months

A mission-critical cable-lay package on a tight DFO programme window, with extremely tight tolerances on the slew-bearing seat, carousel hand-off geometry and hatch sealing — all to be delivered, FAT-accepted, lifted and installed inside a 7-month window. Dimension owned the full thread: design, engineering, fabrication, FAT, lifting, installation and commissioning, on DNV class.

  • 01Tight TolerancesSub-millimetre slew-bearing seat & radial-arm geometry to keep cable hand-off concentric on the carousel.
  • 02Mission-Critical PathNo fallback equipment — the spooling arm is the single hand-off between cable highway and the carousel.
  • 037-Month WindowConcept, FEED, structural & hydraulic design, fabrication, FAT, transport and on-vessel installation in seven months end-to-end.

Overview

Orient Adventurer

As part of the overall contract awarded by Dong Fang Offshore (DFO), Dimension delivered the design, engineering, fabrication, installation and commissioning of the spooling arm system and the cable-lay hatch package for the Orient Adventurer.

The spooling arm is built on a slew-bearing radial arm with 270° rotation and a 100° boom-arm — a 5 T lifting / 2 T side-load envelope, three control centres (walk-about box, operator chair, remote console) and an integrated gangway for carousel access. The hatch package is a double-acting hydraulic system with two main cylinders and four locking cylinders, capacitive proximity sensors, Rubbahatch water-tight sealing and coaming-based water protection.
