Quadrant Systems

Motion-compensated rail quadrant systems for cable second-end deployment — 15 MT (4 m MBR) and 20 MT (5 m MBR) builds.

Overview

Quadrant Systems

Rail quadrant handling systems for deploying the second end of submarine cables on offshore wind export and inter-array campaigns — motion-compensated to extend weather windows and improve vessel uptime.

  • Active motion compensation — rail quadrant + stern chute track vessel heave and pitch in real time, reducing dynamic loads on the cable.
  • Bend-radius preservation — track quadrant with PU-coated rollers; 4 m MBR (15 MT build) and 5 m MBR (20 MT build).
  • Full integrated package — launch & recovery A-frame, handling winch, tugger winches, tracks and cable highway, sized to the vessel.

Key Features

  • Two production builds — 15 MT / 4 m MBR (GL 2030) and 20 MT / 5 m MBR (SFE Adventurer)
  • Active motion compensation reduces vessel heave & pitch effect on the cable
  • Track quadrant with PU-coated rollers preserves cable bend radius
  • Integrated overboarding chute with low-friction contact surfaces
  • Synchronised operation with tensioner and control systems
  • Structural design verified for offshore dynamic and impact load cases
  • Fail-safe locking and emergency stop provisions
  • Marine-grade corrosion protection and robust deck-interface design

GL 2030 DP2 Cable Lay Barge · LS Marine Solution · motion-compensated rail quadrant + overboarding chute

Rail quadrant system for deploying the second end of the cable for wind turbine export and inter-array cables, delivered as part of the GL 2030 DP2 Cable Lay Barge spread for LS Marine Solution. The motion-compensated quadrant and overboarding chute system extends the operating weather window of the cable lay operation and improves vessel uptime during deployment. Track quadrant with PU-coated rollers preserves cable bend radius at 4 m MBR while the active heave compensation tracks vessel motion in real time.

Delivery Methodology

Quadrant System Build Process

Six integration gates from layout planning through class approval — the standard workflow applied to every quadrant handling package Dimension delivers.

  1. 01
    Layout Planning

Operations team sets integration layout against vessel and cable-highway constraints.

  2. 02
    Integrated Analysis

Motion-compensated load analysis across quadrant, A-frame and overboarding chute.

  3. 03
    Quadrant Integration

Structural and mechanical integration of quadrant, A-frame and winch with the cable highway.

  4. 04
    Equipment FAT

Factory Acceptance Testing — function and load testing to rated capacity.

  5. 05
    Quadrant FAT

Function testing of the integrated quadrant package under working load with motion compensation active.

  6. 06
    Class Approvals

ABS class society approval (SFE Adventurer build) — project-specific elsewhere.

Outcome Every quadrant package arrives at the shipyard class-approved, load-tested and supported by Dimension commissioning and operations crew.
